Commercial photography is photography made or licensed for the purpose of selling a product, service or idea where fine-art photography is created as an end in itself.

Once the commercial photographer has liased with the client, he must shoot the brief starting with "safe" shots that really nail the job. After he is happy he has achieved this he can (time allowing) shoot around the brief a little and be a little more creative in his interpretation. This is really good for the commercial photographers sanity and for the choice of images that he is able to give to the client.

A good commercial photographer will then back in the studio mark out his selections that reflect the range of shots he has taken. Also he can then begin to get creative. Here are 2 examples of a portrait I shot recently for a large consulting client.www.sustainablefinance.co.uk

		Commercial photography example 05 © Chris Gloag 2007 This is me getting a little creative and making the photograph black and white and giving it a slight vignette. This man was so photogenic. A rare thing in commercial photography. People are chosen for jobs for how good they are at it (And rightly so!) not for how photogenic they are. Often the commercial photographer has to work very hard to get a nervous and "normal" looking person into the portrait they need.
